Job Description
Job Summary:
The Bookkeeper keeps accurate records of Strong Nations Publishing (SNP) and Island
Urban Indigenous Wellness Society (IUIWS) financial transactions, monitors delinquent
accounts, and prepares monthly and weekly statements and financial reports. The
Bookkeeper manages and monitors the General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, and
Accounts Payable. The Bookkeeper also informs management, monthly, or as needed,
of the status of the financial statement. This position requires an individual who can
meet high standards for timeliness and accuracy. Must have exceptional communication
skills, be attentive to detail, work in a fast-paced deadline-oriented environment, and is
organized, self-driven, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
Education and Experience:
University undergraduate degree in a related field, College diploma, and/or combination
of education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
• Proficient in QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, and MS Office 365
and Accounts Receivable
• Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and
non-disclosure
• Ability to stay focused and calm under pressure

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Exemplifies the Vision, Mission, and Values of SNP and IUIWS
• Maintains records of financial transactions by establishing accounts;
posting transactions; ensure legal requirements compliance
• Develop systems to account for financial transactions by establishing a
chart of accounts, defining bookkeeping policies and procedures
• Processing royalty payments for authors and illustrators
• Maintains subsidiary accounts by transferring subsidiary account
summaries
• Balances general ledger by preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries
• Maintains historical records by filing documents
• Prepares financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing
account information and trends
• Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Complies with federal, provincial, and local legal requirements by studying
requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements, filing reports; advising
management on needed actions
• Processing payroll
• Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed
