Job Description
The Indigenous Business Development Liaison collaborates closely with Career Services and Work Integrated Learning on campus. The role entails creating and developing meaningful connections with indigenous artists and businesses, community partners, alumni businesses, and non-profit organizations. The primary objective of the Liaison is to develop Work Integrated Learning Opportunities for Indigenous students in the areas of Art, Design and Media to enhance their employability upon graduation.

As the successful applicant, you should possess:
• Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences (e.g. northern/Indigenous studies, business administration or another relevant field.
• Minimum five to six years’ of related experience in Indigenous relation, with Indigenous leadership, working with the Ministry, granting agencies and funding bodies. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations is a strong asset.
• Experience with programming and event creation, development, and execution.
• Demonstrated experience in establishing collaborative and respectful relationships with diverse communities, encompassing community investment, engagement with relevant parties, Indigenous engagement, and/or marketing experience.
• Demonstrated experience in job development with a focus on work integrated learning programs and positions.
• Solid understanding of post-secondary work-integrated learning models and programming.
• Experience working with employers and job seekers from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Specifically, a keen understanding of the challenges and barriers encountered by Indigenous job seekers, along with an awareness of cultural factors influencing Indigenous employees in the workforce.
• Knowledge of the creative industries in BC, with a particular focus on creative fields such as Visual Arts, Animation, Design, Film, Curatorial, and related sectors.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrating an ability to effectively collaborate and work well with others.
• Highly proficient communication skills, encompassing strong writing, interpersonal, diplomacy and presentation skills.
• Strong organizational, presentation, project management and creative abilities.
• Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to build awareness and champion the value of Work Integrated Learning, for both the student learner and host (employer or Indigenous community/agency/organization).
• Understanding of the school-to-work transition and challenges for indigenous students
• Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation.
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting TRC and UNDRIP goals and values in all aspects of engagement. Uphold and support goals of reconciliation in all aspects of community engagement.

Some Typical Duties:
1 Collaboratively with the Director, Career Development + Work Integrated Learning works on the development and delivery of the plan for developing connections with organizations and indigenous communities for student placements.
2 Works with the Aboriginal Gathering Place and Emily Carr’s Aboriginal student population to ensure student needs are prioritized and aligned with any potential partnerships.
3 Researches and identifies potential partners in industry, government agencies and institutions (locally, nationally, and internationally) to build relationships, explore partnerships and create paid opportunities for indigenous students.
4 Take the lead in fostering independence within the role, to fulfil ministry mandates aimed at enhancing Indigenous engagement in Work Integrated Learning.
5 Act as a subject matter expert and strategically collaborates with relevant parties to develop impactful policies and procedures within the organization to increase employability of Indigenous students.
6 Responsible for day-to-day supervision of Research Assistants (RAs) to provide essential support in programming, as well as in the planning and execution of events.
7 Operates with full autonomy and collaborates with the team to support initiatives through administrative assistance and allocated resources.
8 Initiates, builds, and maintains new employer relationships for Work Integrated Learning job development and other project-based initiatives for indigenous students.
